VIDEO: Talking Social Media with PantherNOW Editor-in-Chief Michelle Marchante

#ThursdayThrowback to when FIU’s Social Media Association interviewed me in the summer about PantherNOW’s social media strategy.

So used to being the reporter, it was strange being on the other side of the interview, but it was a lot of fun!

Thank you to FIU’S SMA for featuring me as part of their #WeAreFIU video series and to their member Michael Alard for filming and editing this interview!

Welcome to my #journalistlife

Hi – I’m Michelle and welcome to my blog, where I’ll be posting updates on my life as a student journalist.

As you look through my posts, you’ll find columns, videos, radio recordings, articles and even breaking news pieces on various different topics. You’ll occasionally also find graphics, along with some of my work in the book publishing industry.

I’ve been dabbling in storytelling since I can remember, first as an avid book reader and then as a writer, scribbling ideas, comics and novels in journals.

By the time I entered middle school, I knew I wanted to be an author. By the time I left middle school, I knew I wanted to be a journalist. Once I graduated high school, I had a published novel under my belt and was 100 percent confident I would be a journalist, even if my shyness sometimes made me think otherwise.

Today, I’m the Editor-in-Chief of FIU Student Media’s PantherNOW, which means I oversee PantherNOW.com, PantherNOW TV and PantherNOW’s news magazine.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m still shy. I just lock it inside and throw away the key when I wear my reporter hat. It’s easier said than done at times but I always do it, because you know, deadline is deadline.

I have Student Media to thank for that. I’ve been with them since I was a freshman; I’m now a senior majoring in broadcast journalism, with a minor in English and a certificate in film studies. I’ve held various positions there from columnist to copy editor, including leadership roles such as Opinion Director and News Director before becoming editor. I even served as a radio talk show host on PantherNOW’s student-run radio station The Roar.
